Get ahead of Google’s Speed Update
Are you aware that page speed is now a critical factor in how your mobile website performs in Google’s search rankings?
In January 2018, Google announced that page speed will affect rankings for mobile searches. If your mobile website is too slow, it will seriously affect where your company appears in mobile search results. This “Speed Update” will come into effect on July 18, 2018.
Are you using WordPress?
WordPress is the go-to choice for anyone designing websites. It’s easy to use, affordable and there’s plenty of support from fellow users. It’s no surprise that it has 60 percent of the market, compared to Joomla at just 6. 3 percent and Drupal at 4.4 percent.
It may be popular, but it’s not the fastest CMS out there at the moment. So was great news that in February 2018, Google announced that it will work with WordPress to improve the CMS platform’s speed performance.
Developer advocate Alberto Medina from Google says the goal is: “to help bring these two worlds together and work both with the WordPress community and core developers, and the web platform developers to enable amazing user experiences on the web — powered by WordPress.”
What does this mean for NZ local business websites?
If you’re already using the WordPress platform, you can check your page speed by using Google pagespeed insights. If you’re getting a low score, it could be time to get help. A freelance web designer or SEO specialist can solve your speed issues for you.
If your company pages haven’t had a refresh in decades, it’s time to invest in a new local business website. Your clients will thank you for it!
Should I make the move to WordPress?
If you have the budget, and your website is long overdue for a revamp, it’s a good idea to hire a freelance web designer or a digital design agency to build you a new site in WordPress now – before you get left behind.
